(Walton Cliffs) - 1995

At the top, the two million year old Red Crag can be seen, the shell beds are rich in fossils, this was laid down just before the present ice age. Many of the fossils were derived from the Miocene age. The Red Crag is common around the Essex and South Suffolk area but Walton boosts the best exposures, which is why the site remains an SSSI.

At the base of the cliff forms the London Clay, this is from the Lower Eocene period, mostly of the Blackheath beds around 45 million years.
