Walton on the naze by Jasmine - 16 Feb 2008

Lots and lots of wood, found two good sized shark teeth and some good crag shells. About 50 hunters on the beach today, some good teeth finds but you do have to look on your hands and knees.

Fossils at Walton on the Naze

i recently have come back from a holiday at Walton on the Naze, due to the weather and rain before, the conditions for fossil hunting was very good, i managed to collect a few pieces of wood only to find that there was millions of them further along the beach, i took the advise of this web site but was unable to find any teeth but the quality of wood, the detail was outstanding. i found a tooth about 12 miles down the coast where they were not meant to be found, to sum up the location it is a must for fossil hunters who center around wood and plant remains, its perfect for a long walk on the beach but always watch out for cliff falls, i witnessed a few small ones.

Walton - Anne - October 2004

As a local I visit Walton regularly and therefore have a large collection of commonly found fossils. On last trip we found a few shark teeth and a number of pieces of whale bone.
In the past couple of years I have found crabs (others have found lobsters), fish vertebrae, echinoid and shark teeth from the clay, and 2 whale earbones and a lot of whalebone and shells in variety from the crag.
I understand there are hundreds of differnet shells to be collected if you are so inclined.
If the Caravan by the tower is open (summer weekends for sure) a full range of finds can be seen.
Don't underestimate Walton, if you are lucky amzing things turn up including Megalodon teeth on a regular basis.
My neighbour found a complete turtle whilst walking dog so you never know!
