Walton-on-the-Naze Finds 21st Jan 2010 |
am from Colchester & visit Walton quite a bit & also with a good friend of mine. We have found numerous items there.
We have both found quite a lot of sharks teeth & some nice sized ones & good condition.
We have found many things there like Ra teeth, Sharks Teeth, vertebrae, fossil wood(which there is so much you cant miss it)
Today 21st Jan 2010 I found 172 sharks teeth & 1 ray tooth.
So like everyone has said before me it is just a good place to go to get finds & not only that it is out of the way of all the hustle & bustle of everyday life to have time on your own or with a good friend.

Fossil finds @ Walton on the Naze |
I found a load of wood, six sharks teeth, a few bones and some BIG shells. There was quit a few people hunting for fossils on the beach today with us, who were very friendly and help by showing us there finds and where best to look (foreshore amongst the stones), but you do have to sieve through and look on your hands & knees.

Fossils found, June 2008, Charlie |
As i come to walton every saturday i have found several fossils. There is a better chance of finding fossils when its stormy.Today i have found fifty two bits of fossilized pyritized wood, two natica multipunctata, which are small fossil shells, a bird bone, thirty six glycameris glycameris, which are bigger fossil shells and finally two fairly big shark's teeth.
You really have to get on your knees to find shark's teeth!
Look out for an orange coloured shell because they are fossil shells.
There is MILLIONS of bits of fossilized wood.Look out for iron looking like bits of heavy wood.Good luck

Fossils at Walton on the Naze |
i recently have come back from a holiday at Walton on the Naze, due to the weather and rain before, the conditions for fossil hunting was very good, i managed to collect a few pieces of wood only to find that there was millions of them further along the beach, i took the advise of this web site but was unable to find any teeth but the quality of wood, the detail was outstanding. i found a tooth about 12 miles down the coast where they were not meant to be found, to sum up the location it is a must for fossil hunters who center around wood and plant remains, its perfect for a long walk on the beach but always watch out for cliff falls, i witnessed a few small ones.

Walton - Anne - October 2004 |
As a local I visit Walton regularly and therefore have a large collection of commonly found fossils. On last trip we found a few shark teeth and a number of pieces of whale bone.
In the past couple of years I have found crabs (others have found lobsters), fish vertebrae, echinoid and shark teeth from the clay, and 2 whale earbones and a lot of whalebone and shells in variety from the crag.
I understand there are hundreds of differnet shells to be collected if you are so inclined.
If the Caravan by the tower is open (summer weekends for sure) a full range of finds can be seen.
Don't underestimate Walton, if you are lucky amzing things turn up including Megalodon teeth on a regular basis.
My neighbour found a complete turtle whilst walking dog so you never know! |
